An interesting little snippet that I picked up at an IMechE lecture tonight on ERTMS - the new Thameslink fleet specification asks for Automatic Train Operation (ATO)

I think this was discussed in a previous topic somewhere with the reason being that with 3 minute headways and 90 second stops the only way the trains will get through the central section is to use ATO.
