Chief Superintendent Martin Ripley, of British Transport Police, said: "A freight train which was coming in to the depot has caught fire. The freight train is carrying diesel."
The freight train is operated by DB Schenker.
A spokesman for the firm said: "Shortly after 6am this morning, a train conveying aviation fuel from Mossend to Prestwick in six wagons became derailed.
diesel? Aviation fuel? What do they run 747's on these days

I wonder what MPG inprovement it gives.

It's the Ricarton tanks.
Prestwick tanks are 4 wheelers.
When I used to work it we were banned from the Barhead route because it was too heavy. It went via Barassie.
Looks like it hit something and brought down a bridge.
No injuries so I suppose we'll find out what happened from the driver.

I work in Kilmarnock on the buses and one of drivers was involved in it with a bus he was not hurt but had to change into civvies as his uniform was covered in fuel from when he stepped of the bus and into a what he thought was a puddle of water, up to this point we have still got a bus stranded near the spot where it happened and all buses are being turned at kilmaurs.
Another bus driver thought he was going into a blizzard until he realized it was the smoke from the burning fuel.
It sounds like the train was heading for Campbell Fuel Oils which is just at the back of Asda in Kilmarnock.
This is not the same train a pictured last week is it, its the second one down?

The rumour I heard was that it brought an overhead line down (not electrification, just general 3 phase distribution for domestic & industrial customers), which struck an arc, hence the fire.
Diesel is not really that flammable, so there must have been some abnormal conditions.

I think the train somehow split by what I've read on another forum.
66067 is further down the line with 4 wagons and the remaining few split and are/were on fire.
Don't trust this as 100% accurate though.
Hope the driver is OK.
Must be DB Schenkers first incident in the UK.
