Today is the 20th anniversary of the Clapham disaster.

35 people lost their lives, including the driver John Roles, who I knew.
I was a guard at Basingstoke at the time.

Please try to spend a few moments today thinking of them.

Thanks

Glyn

Thanks, Glyn. I never forget 12th December. My father was on an up fast passing that spot just a few minutes before the collision.

I think all the trains had to be diverted via Richmond and suburban rail services had to terminate at Wimbledon.

If this wouldn't be a breach of forum rules, could anyone provide a bit of background on what happened?

Thanks, and with thoughts to all those involved,
Adam

The official report is quite easy to find online and runs to 250 pages.

there is a detailed section on wiki, take a pinch of salt with it however, because we all know wiki isn't always correct.
