Whilst going to the toilet in one of the electronic controlled doors, have you ever thought 'I don't trust these doors'? even when supposedly locked!

Well, whilst travelling back to Lime St the other day I duly went to the toilet, locked the door, the light came on to say it was locked, and whilst I was doing what I was doing, the door opened!! At the time I thought, this is an embarassing situation, but thinking about it later, it could of been some kid in there instead of me, or some kid opening the door, I should of complained to the guard, or "train manager' as they call themselves nowadays.

Needless to say, I won't be using them again - but I don't think there are any manual locks on Pedno's! BRING BACK THE 87'S AND MK3's!!!!

I've noticed on at least on TPE 170, the electronic door lock doesn't work quite as intended, pressing the lock button twice can reopen the door! Combined with no indicator on the inside this have left me wondering if the door's locked or not, and have need numerous people go in and not lock the door. At the least the 185s have a sturdy switch.

Did exactly this on a 170 yesterday,
Door shuts, Lock light flashes, press lock button, Light goes steady, accidentally hit the lock button again, door opens! Luckily Kingussie station isn't exactly busy.

Was the toilet you used disabled? I don't know, I've never seen a pendo toilet. Each NIR's C3K train comes with two toilets. A normal toilet, which is like being sealed in an upright coffin, with manual locking doors. And the huge disabled toilets which take up so much space you can't get a pram past them, that have electronic doors which open with buttons. There are millions of buttons everywhere.

Does the pendos not come with coffin toilets? I admit that kind of nightmare hasn't happened, even after I used the C3K's disabled toilets because I was fascinated by the buttons.

Ditto that for the 444s and 450s, except I believe, In their Wisdom, South West Trains are getting rid of the standard, manual locking and opening toilets.

I think the current normal approach is to provide electronic controls on the "accessible" toilets, and manual types on the broom-cupboard toilets. That's certainly how it is on all SWT trains that I've used the toilets on, and likewise on NXEC trains. The only other one I know much about is XC, and they have loads of accessible toilets, which I think goes back to Virgin's plans to have 3 classes on those trains.

Accessible loos, so the rest nobody can get into? LOL One of these daft terms that's worse that what preceded it!

Pendolinos do have a broom cupboard type toilet as you put it situated in coach a.

These disabled loos are actually a bit of a con. The doors don't actually lock in any physical fashion - the lock button just deactivates the door controls. The door then makes a clunking noise for your reassurance! They can easily be dragged open this way if the door controls fail to unlock themselves when they're meant to.

I wonder if all modern trains are fitted with self-flashing loos?

Personally, I would prefer it if doors could open and close automatically, but had a nice big handle to lock them manually.

Never had it happen on a Pendo, but once on a 156 from Kilmarnock to Glasgow the bleeding door got about halfway closed and then stopped! :bad-words:

Had to use a toilet on an EMT 158 where the lock button didnt light up, and the door taken ages to open
