60009 to Edinbrough Or Not

Post by ilovequo »

Hi - Was at York today to see 60007 Sir Nigel Gresley and 60009 Union Of South Africa. (didnt think it was worth £32.50 to see all 4 A4's LOL)

My question is after looking at http://www.uksteam.info is why was 60009 replaced by diesel at Tyne Yard

One of the motion bearings ran hot and 60009 was failed in Tyne Yard, requiring a Class 67 to take the train on to Edinburgh. The plan is for 60007 to come up to Tyne Yard tomorrow morning (or tonight) and take over from the Class 67 to get the train back to York, where 60019 will take over for the return to London (as scheduled).

60009 is likely to remain there for a few days as the component will be taken to Crewe for repairs before being brought back for refitting onto the locomotive. This means that the 4 A4's line-up only occurred today at the NRM.

Dan
