The Royal is a spin off from Heartbeat I think, so possibly on the NYMR.

And I think that's 31109 being used (I could be wrong though)...

It was 31420 at Tyersal according to these photos:

There are some moving shots too, which used 31190.
Apparently.

31190 was used in the moving shots, the shell of 31420 (now scrapped) was used in the 'post crash' shots.

The coaches used they wore MK1's I take it those wore going to be scraped to or waiting to be restored and used for filming

Heh, 3 threads regarding one ITV show ain't bad
I thought it would've been the body shell of a 31 on the ground, since the shots of it on its side were always from the roof side. Thanks for the info.
EDIT: oops, just saw that the bogies were depicted in filming, as supposedly fallen off in the crash. Just forget I said anything

There is a feature on the filming in this weeks Radio Times, from memory they filmed the moving shots on the NYMR and then adjourned to a really remote field some miles away and set up the 'crash' there.

Was it worth watching? Like Jon its not a program i would normally watch, but when i saw the bit about a train crash in the write up I recorded it. Do you actually see the crash or just the aftermath. ?

Hi
You see clips of 31190 on the NYMR (I assume)......... but then its the good old 'camera shake'..... followed by the static crash site.
Followed by inside the carriage rescues ............. some nice period emergency vehicles are used.
Nice touch calling it a new fangled diesel , and blaming Beeching for massive delays.
Cheers

Thanks Jon - One to watch when nothing else is on TV then
Not like that shot in the Fugitive film (I think it was anyway) where you actually see the loco and train jumping the rails and careering down the bank, train load of coaches at the rear. That was a stunning crash scene and was actually done in real time. I visited the location some years ago now where the wreck was actually staged. Good job it worked out first time

but then that scene in the film probably had a bigger budget then the ENTIRE Royal series
