Hi,
I must say that I think that the Dynamic Lines livery looks very nice, especially on an HST. However does anyone know why they backtracked on making power cars and locos into Dynamic Lines and painted them into that plain blue that stinks of unfinished canvas. The prototype refurbished HST had all dyanmic lines livery including power cars, but no subsequent refurbished power cars did. I'm sure there was a reason which I can't remember now. Does anyone know what it is?

also if you look at most the new First GW stock theyve gone for dark blue with various types of dynamicness (like the 150s/158s and etc) and gone away from the FCCs version of light to dark blue.

Also it could be its one hell of a big vinal transfer, may be it was such a job putting it on that they decided not to?

I recall readin gon these forums that there were problems with the transfers used on the prototype power cars, either in sourcing transfers or transfers being affected by heat. As refurbs were underway the powercars were outshopped in a plain blue livery with the intention of having the decals applied at a later date. Someone must have noticed the sets were better looking without the decals on the powercars and decided to keep them that way.

IMHO the powercars themselves look better without decals, less clutter and a bold clean livery. This follows onto the sets as well.

What I found odd though was the fact FGW were refurbishing the sleeper stock in the old FGW green livery at the same time and had previously liveried the 57's to match that stock.... this is now being corrected with the 57's reappearing in all over blue like the HST powercars and the stock receiving the dynamic lines livery.

Still doesn't explain why First are outshopping First Scotrail stock in the barbie livery..... You'd think they'd want to update that too.

I think the blue power cars would look very good if the rest of the train was more subtle and darker.

Given the Oil Shoshing reputation of the HST power car, maybe it was easier to keep clean.. How white are the NXEC ones staying?

And the sleeper stock wasn't refurbished.. FGW had picked up some mk 3s and painted them to match the existing sleeper coaches..

The oil sloshers were un use on the WR long before anyone dreamt of a 125mph DMU - hydraulics...

As for FSR sticking with Barbie, First seem to be taking a less restrictive approach to their corporate image at the moment, as FCC is quite distinct from FGW (though TPE is much like FGW). Time will tell what the 180s on Hull end up looking like, but I wouldn't be surprised if it was Barbie. GBRf are also going with Barbie these days. So it's not dead yet!

Their doesn't seem any intention to move from Barbie as far as the buses go either, and of cource, that's where Barbie begain (I think it was Bus and Coach Preservation magazine that actually came up with the term "Barbie" to describe the livery, at least that's where I first saw it, well before it began being applied to trains).
