High winds disrupt WCML services

Post by photons66 »

Hi everyone

I don't know if anyone else was caught up in this but I got to Milton Keynes Central station and found that they had put buses on so I had to turn back. Never mind. :)

4E90 has had some of its containers blown off blocking the WCML in the Leighton Buzzard area damaging OHLE and Pway. Not familiar with the area but maybe this is the the cause of the busses at Milton Keynes?

Also 4S83 has also lost some of its containers in the Harrisions sidings area significantly damaging Pway and signalling equipment.

I think so, danielw. There were certainly more people than busses.

Yeah. Is it true that the RAIB are launching an investigation into why the wagons didn't derail?

I think they want to know how the containers got off the wagon without pulling the wagon off the track. It means that there could be a probelm with the securings.

As far as I am aware, containers are not always physicly bolted to the wagon but rather just sit on spigots.

If that's the case I'm sure that practice will be revised.

I'm not quite clear as to whether 2 trains were subject to this mishap or 1 train that lost containers in 2 separate locations.

It was two trains in two seperate incidents.

High winds also caused serious issues at Felixstowe South Terminal....

I saw the autoballaster in action just off the A4146 near Stoke Hammond about 2.30 today as i drove inot Milton keynes. It was gone by 7.30pm on my way home, im guessing this was where the Leighton/MK one happended? Looked like the fasts were recieving the work, as the Pendos were on the slows, under a heavy TS by the look fo it...

Like I say it was clear at 7.30, just some on-track plant...

I watched the story on BBC News 24. I make out the Virgin Trains Class 57/3 locomotive at the scene of the Shap incedent was 57314 'Firefly'.
