I am guessing a 5 A* - C GCSE's, a clear medical - no history or seizures, epilepsy, blackouts - last time I checked If you had a disability you werent allowed to be in charge of passengers at all. Not sure about the grades though

You have to take the Railway Assessment which you have to complete successfully before you even start onto the medical and final interview for a potential driver's job.

http://www.ews-railway.co.uk/careers/assessment.html explains who in EWS to contact regarding these, I recommend them as the qualification is recognised by all UK Toc's working both Freight and Passenger and will most certainly work in your favour but having said that though, it's doesn't promise you a concrete offer of employment in the industry.

Lastly, get in where you can even if this means moving half way across the country, if it's gets you where you want to be then it's a good thing.

You might want to visit the chaps at RailChat.co.uk as they would be able to help you in even more detail, :D
