If needed I can picture the trains at Warrington Bank Quay...
The times have now changed since I posted originally, not leaving Newton Heath till 1728..........so Warrington just after 1800ish......

Did this move happen, can anyone confirm it finally reached Exeter, as I heard it got to Chester and was cancelled due to lack of a onward driver.

Nothing I've heard from Guard Gossip.

Though I did hear a 'spotter' was arrested on Exeter St Davids this week. Apparently he had a stolen Advantix machine on his person... Suspect I'll hear more in due course

Surprisingly they've retained Northern Branding, thoughT this would have been removed at NH.

The extra pacers will no doubt free up a few 150's which can be used to free up 158's elsewhere which can then be used to strengthen some of its most over-crowded long distance Ex-Wessex routes. It might be bad if you happen to live on a branch line but at least passengers on long distance services will benefit from it
This is quite correct.

Our local train service through Chapeltown towards Sheff and Barnsley has been Pacers (do you remember the green and white minty chews of the same name :-? sorry, I digress) and to be honest, though they are a bit too plastic for most, they are, IMHO, more than suitable for short local journeys, eg' Chapeltown - Barnsley, Penistone - Huddersfield, Leeds - Garforth, Hexham - Newcastle, Salford - Chorley, ... Looe - Liskeard etc.

After all, there are preferable to no train at all....

(PS. great prototypical activities for the Looe branch  (sorry Reg)),

It would be nice if that were the case, but 12 158s are being swapped for the Pacers. It wouldn't be to bad if the track on the Exmouth and Barnstaple lines wasn't so rough. Even 158s rock like anything between Topsham and Sandy Park

BTW - Pacers are banned from Liskeard to Looe (as well as the rest of Cornwall)

Are they actually banned in the whole of Cornwall? I thought it was Liskeard to Looe and St Erth to St Ives only...

I read that they were not allowed West of Newton Abbot - Network Rail got upset about Wessex using one on Cardiff to Penzances when there were problems with Sprinters a couple of years ago. They are also not allowed south of Warminster or East of Exmouth Junction on the London line.

They should be banned south of Thurso.
