What train is this....

Post by wdpics »

Hi

I was on what was a First Scotrail Class 170 going from Edinburgh to Glasgow today - but on the way there, i was confused about the interior.

The seats were red with green squares and yellowish lines going through - and the carpet was Green with some lines on it

What company has owned that train before?

Normal First Scotrail has blue seats and capets with the First logo on it and SPT is green :-?

Probably been a ex-Hull Trains unit 170393-396.

Don't think so; SWT usually go in for blue or grey carpet.

More likely to be Hull Trains.

Is it this one?

Its an Anglia unit - some of which went up to Scotland I beleive (and also the ones Hull Trains used when they started out).

Cheers

Yes gaz- it was like that with the seats but the carpet was a bit different - it was not a solid yellow stripe down each side but spaces between each line

I just wondered why there was a change - i thought FSR were going to have a new look for a second lol - it looked nicer than FSR :)

thanks lol

Problem this one had though was its engine was struggling to pull the 6 carages - and it wasnt going up hill..... bout time we got class 222's

the 170's have an engine under each coach-so unless something had gone wrong, all it shouldnt have stuggled up a hill in 6 car formation :-s

Thats what i thought Carl - but the engine was revving at full power - about N7 and it was hardly moving. It then hit a slope downhill and moved a bit quicker but it just wanst moving quick. (it was okay from Edinburgh but when it left Polmont, thats when it was very slow and engine revving high)

was a bit late getting in to GQS but it made it okay :)

It's one of the ex Hull Trains units, which had the same interior as the Anglia ones (since they were owned by the same company).
170s arn't that great in terms of power, and in performance terms they are very like the 15X series. It's not uncommon for faults to make performance even worse, I've had ones where an engine either won't come out of idle, or hunts between idle and full power, ones where the gearbox was stuck in fluid coupling mode (basically like being stuck in 4th gear), engines out, etc.
