Which loco would you like to see restored from the NRM?

Errr, thats not in the NRM collection is it?
And you're arguement RE the 3rd rail is flawed. NOWHERE has a suitable 3rd rail system that it could run on (before anyone suggests it, the Manchester-Bury system was uniquely 1200v DC), so surely its better off being 'home'?

I disagree. There are several other 9Fs in preservation, so the money needed to restore 92220 would be better spent restoring something else. Also, to keep a preserved engine running always means that historic material would have to be replaced. It's better to keep 92220 on a plinth with that historic material conserved and let the other surviving 9Fs show future generations what they look like in steam.

That it is, but even Manchester-Bury doesnt even have the 1200vc 3rd Rail since conversion to Metrolink in 1991/1992.rwaceyw wrote:Errr, thats not in the NRM collection is it?

Even if it is "home" it is not on display and is just sitting there.
Oh yea, rwaceyw, your also on at TT-Forums too arnt ya?
Exactly my point. It probably won't run again, theres nowhere to do it.That it is, but even Manchester-Bury doesnt even have the 1200vc 3rd Rail since conversion to Metrolink in 1991/1992.
If you fancy coming down and working on it, the ELR are waiting for your call.Even if it is "home" it is not on display and is just sitting there.

The thing is though, if Evening Star ran out and got broken, it'd still be no worse off than it is now!
I disagree with keeping what I think is probably the most special of steam locomotives built in this country bar the first on a plinth while it's still so new. As it is now, it's just a cold lump of metal, not a proud locomotive that was built to make a special end to a chapter in history.

Does it not have blue star? I'm sure that it (and it's now scrapped partner) ran with a 25 sandwiched between the two units when they first arrived at Bury. A Push-pull train could be very useful, and that unit would be ideal.rwaceyw wrote:Exactly my point.
