All top gear is presenters getting there kicks out of doing things and getting away with it and looking at the audience and saying try this at home and see how far you go.

Jeremy always carries that smug look as if he is saying i can do this because im famous and its my job oh look my ego's attatched to the back of my tractor in the drag race.

its a wonder why tiff needle buggered off the Ch5 and give birth to 5th gear all in all a much better show with a healthier format more mature humour and i actually enjoy it more than top gear.

If it is right about jeremy having to act in a slightly offbeat dumb childish way then i hate to think what they think of there viewers let alone the studio audience.
5th gear was created when the BBC canned Top Gear first time around, and as such it's bsaically what the 'old' top gear was.

The new version is solely entertainment, with an automotive flavour. When I watch it, it's because it's funny, even if it is rather lowest-common-denominator stuff.

Just because a programme is billed as light hearted entertainment and usually consists of daft things, doesnt mean they cant put in a serious note from time to time.

Look at "Tarrant On TV", those of you who have seen it will know its a funny programme about adverts from across the world, but before the middle ad breaks they usually always have a serious and sombre advert that makes you think!

Wearing a hivis jacket on a level crossing is a bit stupid as it might confuse the driver of the train into thinking the driver of the car is par of the rail network workings.

Seeing how the 31 had no driver I dont think thats to much of a problem  Even if there was a driver, the primary function of HV clothing is to give a clear indication to on coming trains of someone on or near the line regardless of who that person might work for.
