It is already Doube tracked in sections.
Between Stud Farm and Mantle Lane it is Double Tracked.
They have been cutting/reducing line side trees along the line apparetly (from a bloke I met whilst photting on the line)because they are going to be using a heavy machine to transport coal along the line. I wasn't sure what he was on about but his mates seemed to. ?? :-?

I haven't heard anything of double tracking it myself. Where did you hear this from? I know NR did checks for the bridges to see if class 86 could be hauled down the line into mantle lane. Dont know what came about of that though?! :(

I found out there doubbleing it for passanger trains when Trent Junction closes for engineering work trains to derby will go via the burton line a diversion but if this works well it might reopen for passanger work

ALSO when trent junction closes for the work nottingham trains will go via the old GCR to the heritage centre at ruddington and then passangers get a bus to nottingham is that true

Not unles the trains go through Loughborough very fast....fast enough to jump the gap caused by removal of the bridge over the canal! :o

When trent Junction closes for Engineering Buses take over full stop and the Freight service probably goes the long way round.

No. The Gap is missing to link the 2 sections of the GCR. The Midland Mainline has a chord that links the GCR (N) to MML on the Leicester side of Loughbouro Station.

Think there are some plans of the gap and chord on http://www.bridgingthegap.com although the site hasnt been updated fora while.

thats only for the GCR as a preserved line not for use of normal service trains.

Yes there is a chord from the MML to Ruddington but its not for regular runs

Well gypsum trains run to Rushclife Halt.

But the track would need a lot of upgrading if an HST was to run over it. Been a couple of years, but I got a run down the line, and between Rushcliffe Halt and the MML chord, the tracks not the best in the world...
