Try your local TOCs if you want platform/ on board. Do GNER operate Newcastle Central? (I'm going on your Gateshead location here) Nexus might be an option too, and no doubt Northern and TPE have staff in your area. Look at their websites (job opportunities seem to be in the "about us" section, unless there is a specific opportunities section). Network Rail are generally good employers, too, but in a company as big as NR, personal experiences will vary widely.

GNER, or whatever they may soon be called

Transpennine Express is kinda intercity

Northern if you just want to get some experiance

It's true about network rail, they are a good company to work for when once you've learned to work alongside the managers rather than against, but they don't do trains, just infrastructure (maintaining, replacing etc)

I'm on the NR apprenticeship scheme if you want to PM, feel free, but I'm not on the tracks yet, but I can give you a rough Idea with what they are like to work for

Most TOCs advertise better posts to internal employees, so its best to get a platform job first, then work on from there- after 6 months or so, start applying internaly for guard or driver ect.
