Lymington cig's wheel turning?

Post by 3digitdriver »

Hi all erm im a bit confused and im hoping some one knows the answer. :D. A few days ago i read a few mounths old todays railways(formerly Entrain) magazine and there was a section on how the lymington cigs have to have there wheels turned due to one way wear. Now this means a main line run to a works(it did say were but ive forgoten) which means more places to picture them. But thats not the part that puzzles me. The part i dont understand is why do the wheels have to be turned because surely they go up and down the lymington braunch loads of times a day which isnt going to make one way wear on the wheels acure is it?. cheers all :D

Tyre turning is done on the lathe at Wimbledon.

Triangle turning will probably utilise the St Denys - Fareham - Eastleigh triangle, and probably happens at night as the single line sections between Fareham and Eastleigh are rather restrictive on paths.

Unless there are exactly the same amount of turns, all taken at the same speed, then trundling up and down the same bit of track will end up with one side of wheels risking being more worn than the other.

here's another one for you, the SVR turn all the servicable coachs nearly once every 6 months because of the same problem.
