ill see if i can find out sometime this week which peak it was she was steaming and on a rake of mk1's which at the time was rare as the Shrewsbury eustons had all gone over to Mk2d stock with mk1 buffet's.

I i recall correctly, the loco was swapped at new street instead of wolverhampton to get the peak back to Toton.

Hmmm, the last SH Peak on the network was 45001, Christmas 1985 (AFAIK) between New St and Derby on the FO Pompey-Leeds, got ripped as the front coach had its steam pipe missing and the rest of the train was a tad cold... 45069 should have gone to PZ in Jan 1986 but derailed coming off BR (I stood there watching it do so.... :( )

As for steam genny vans, no.

97408 was in service as such between 20/5/85 and 4/9/85 then 18/11/85 to 26/2/86. Unlikely that a boiler would have been in use in the former period, so can assume that the working in question was in Nov/Dec '85 - will see if I can try and identify what it was!

Considering every mainline movement off the ELR HAS to go via Castleton.....
