Preston gets a lot of traffic, but I carn't remember seeing a depot from the station. You could always go the extra 30minutes from Warrington and be traditional and go to Crewe.

Go to Stalybridge (East of Manchester) for a few hours- lots of transpennine traffic to watch and one of the best station pubs you'll find anywhere right on the platform.

if your prepared go a little bit out of your way to crewe (about an hour or so on from chester as far as i can remember). you'll get some great trains there and i advise you to go to the crewe railway museum. They have a signal box where you can go out on top and look out toward the station. its brilliant!

Carlisle is good - I've seen allsorts there. However, it isn't the most photogenic of places; there always seems to be a post in the way, I find. That said, if you're into photography it's an interesting challenge. I've found a few spots that I like, and I tend to stick with them.

I'd also recommend Preston. There's a good variety and it's always busy.

Leeds is pretty busy aswell... and you get HST's there. That's if you're into mostly passenger workings though.

I guess it depends on how long the rover lasts... the main places would be Crewe, Leeds, Warrington and Carlisle (imo). I'd recommend travelling from Carlisle to Leeds or vice versa aswell, ofc. ;)
It's all about the sound!!! :) (Excluding unit's, electric's, kettles and for now 57's, 66's and 67's)

Yep,
Go to the North of Warringon, and have a pint (or several :D ) in the Beer Garden of "The Fiddle in'th Bag" by Winwick Junction, and watch the trains roll by.............

Bus 329 from Warrington bus station. (To St Helens) Every 30 mins, but doesn't run on Sundays or evenings :( . Last is 6 O'Clock ish.

The bus station is about 10mins walk from Warrington Bank Quay, or 2 mins from Warrington Central.

Pub (bus stop right outside) is about 150m or so from the track, so you might want to take some binoculars.
