Megatrain. What's the catch?

Post by codrivermike »

Manchester to Edinburgh by Virgin Cross Country. For only £1 each way? There has to be a catch, hasn't there?

I am using it to go from Birmingham to Bournemouth in July. £13.50 for three of us return. However you must board and disembark from the specified stations other that no carch. Also availability it limited so if you want to get the cheapest fares book well in advance

Cheers

There is no catch other than the restrictions on when and where you can travel. It was introduced simply to fill seats that would otherwise be empty during the day. It's a great idea, very innovative and the perfect example of why SWT should get to keep their franchise.

Aren't the train times at rediculous hours? E.g. Southampton - Waterloo you have to get the 22:30 or something from Soton. And if you live in say Winchester (like me) you would have to go to Southampton to get on the train that will stop at Winchester anyway. :-?

Im coming down on the 09:03 from Brum getting to Bournemouth at 12:15 and returning on the 18:46 which gets back to Brum at 21:45. As Rich has said I will need to also buy a Coventry to Brum ticket which adds to the price a bit but it still works out about £10 each

the catch would be the lack of flexibility.

Hooray for Megatrain! Restores your faith that there is still cheap travel out there so nice to see them expanding to my hometown (Edinburgh) of all places. OK, so it's Stagecoach, but I don't mind living with that ;)

The Portsmouth ones seem really late.

But we've had a decent day in London for £10 between 2.

Something like mid day from SC, and back at 21:40.
Nothing wrong with that.
