Network Rail!!!

I have been given a place at a assessment centre which is the last stage in the graduate recruitment scheme, the next stage is the job offer!

I'm not sure how many users here work for or did work for Network Rail, I would like to have some views of the company

I've applied for the general management scheme btw.

I've finished my studies at Staffordshire Uni and is waiting for my result mid June and my graduation is early July and I am currently got a temp job at one of my old companies doing database work.

I'm still waiting to hear from Freightliner about my application their.

I know a bit about the Engineering side through a few people I met during my Year in Industry.

Hey everybody,

Quick update with my Graduate job applications into the Train network:

Network Rail: Got an assessment centre with them in Watford 2 weeks on Friday, part of which is I have to present a presentation on a pre-defined topic, I've chosen Cheap short haul flights v Intercity train travel, should be fun.

EWS: I've got an interview next Thursday in Doncaster

Freightliner: Waiting to hear if they invite me to an interview.

I'm gunna need a break after all this!

Congratulations, I spent too long this past year hunting for placement jobs so I know partly what your going through... hardly fun is it?

All the best with the presentation, keep Virgins recent offer about exchanging boarding cards for 1st class tickets in mind and I've found a hand-out with interesting facts/figures goes a long way to making your presentation more memorable. Just some thoughts... Good luck!

How do you get placement jobs, or should I say interview's for the job?

With EWS, I found out about the job on thier website (applications close today btw) and they e-mailed me about 2 weeks after I had applied.

With Network Rail, I throught I had missed the deadline as I knew about the program through a graduate site but they had closed it when I wanted to apply, however...I got a e-mail about a month or so ago saying it was re-opened and I got in there straight away, filled in the form and after they invited me to an assessment canter.

Freightliner, I found out that job advertised on their website.

Hey all, quick update:

I've have got my University course mark and its is a 2:2 which is something I'm pleased at.

Freightliner: Got a rejection letter through the post today

EWS: Had a interview with them in Doncaster today and it went well and should hear back to see if I'm through to the assessment centre in a few weeks.

During the interview, I was told that I will be trained to be a train driver (if needed to incase of shortage of drivers at any one time) and the assessment centre will involve the knowledge of the sights and sounds of working in a freight train and I am wondering if anyone here has any advice about driiving a freight train and if there are any links to a website that has all of the signs and signals that drivers go by??

Also I'm going to go back to my MSTS and drive a load of EWS's around to get use to the basic controls again!!

Forgot MSTS, just let em teach you how to do it, it's veeery different so I'm told.

It was the BA Hons Business Management.

I haven't worked on the railways before but I want to get into the industry as it is highly competitive and highly charged and this will be the purfect way to start my strategic/logostic career!
