Atomic Systems

I always thought that LNWR early Webb livery colours were what they called "blackberry" and was happily making my model that colour. Much to my surprise I've read it was green. Would anybody who's been to a museum etc know approximately what color green it would be, eg: apple green, Brunswick green etc. All pictures from that era are b&w or engravings so no chance of finding a colour photo on the web (no pun intended).

Speaking from memory & without access to my records.

If I remember LNWR was originally South & North Divisions, both with seperate liveries. Some engines were green, some red like Midland engines.

When Webb was in his reforming fury he unified the system & livery - can't remember dates. Ramsbottom engines would have been in the previous liveries - I suspect Webb engines were always black.

The centre-spread of the Railway World October 1988 issue featrued a colour painting of a Bloomer 2-2-2 in green. It was quite a pale green, rather like that used by the LSWR, with darker green panels on the tender and cabsides.
Alternatively, British Railway Modelling's liveries of the pre-grouping railways series probably featured it at some point, but unfortunately I don't take this magazine regualrly.
