Thats a contradiction if I ever heard one 'an age that never existed'
By omitting the crucial word "golden" you are altering the context!
Maybe so but I guess the age of the railway was better than the present so saying it never existed is debatable :argue:

What are you on about.

Would you rather I phrased it "tries to hanker back to a halcyon era that never actually existed"just so you can stop mincing my words. :-?

Hey chill out fella! just trying to stress the point that there was a better time in the history of railways than at present, if some people refer to it as the "golden age" then so be it.

Sorry the tone was lost in the post. It was a sort of confused throwing the arms up in the air "what are you on about?" :P

The only exception is when Arriva renamed it Arriva Trains Merseyside and when MTL called it Merseyrail 'Electrics'. Livery's a bit dull, although we're promised our new trains will have silver, yellow and blue!

When are these new trains coming? They have just spent 51 million on the old ones so I cant see it being anytime soon.
They are due any time between 2010-2015, probably Class 376's.

GNER and LNER are great names.

First [insert company name here] is bad as they don't have taste in company names and liveries.

Anglia was quite good, and the livery was nice, certainly better than 'one' and it made more sense on the platform announcements too.

But I too miss the days of Network Southeast, with the toothpaste trains and the occasional Jaffa cake.

"The London Necropolis company"

GNER - Again, retro, even more than Southern, but modern at the same time. Using Century Gothic makes it look classy.
I agree - I do like GNER. The name is descriptive, and the livery is simple.

One small point though - the typefaces used are actually FuturaBook, and FuturaXtraBlack (for the emboldened letters) :)

Cheers

GNER is the best name IMO, I've found that Tw Cen MT is very close to the real font.
