I should say, in the light of new information (ie. I used the service on Saturday) that my original suggestion of Five Minutes Late Capital Connect is not appropriate. It should be Nine Minutes Late Capital Connect. Because it was!

I currently get on the 1632 Sutton-St Albans service every day. Part of the journey anyway. Very very often it is 3,4,5 minutes late - which is isn't that bad really, but I think FCC ought to adjust their timetables to accommodate the often late running of this service. And about 1 in 10 times the service is completely cancelled.

Cheap day returns haven't been abolished, unless you believe the Evening Standard's usual innaccurate reporting.

As far as my cirumstances are concerned they've been abolished for me; and that's based on screwing my brain trying to understand the leaflet, not the papers. :(

The changes simply mean that during evening rush hour times you cannot take the return journey of a cheap day return from one of the stations that Thameslink services stop at within London. This actually already exists on many rush hour services out of London at that time of the evening that are operated by other companies.

What journey is it?

There are many ways round it, the best is to get a combination of a CDR + travelcard from Elstree & Borehamwood.

Theoretically providing you get a Metro you can use 1 ticket and 1 train, by hopping off and back on again at Elstree & Borehamwood (although technically you may need to dash out the station and back again - but if there is a train a few minutes behind that's not a problem).

See http://www.railforums.co.uk/showpost.ph ... ostcount=7

If you would like advice on avoiding being chinged on Farce . Disconnect then I am happy to advise you (but read that first, it may give you the answers you need?)

It doesn't seem as simple as that

http://www.firstcapitalconnect.co.uk/up ... eaflet.pdf

Thameslink stations, plus KX and Finsbury Park, ?unless you are travelling southbound?, if you are travelling north of Elstree & Borehamwood, Hadley Wood or Crows Hill, except north of Waterbeach.

So the anomolies appear to include

- Cheaper to travel from Ely to London than from Waterbeach
- Possibly cheaper to travel from Peterborough to Redhill than to London
- Possibly cheaper to travel from Harringay to Peterborough than Finsbury Park to Peterborough, even though the Harringay journey will be via Finsbury Park.

FCC can't give me a straight or consistent story on the last two, and if they can't understand the monster they created what hope for me?

Also, NRE are still telling people cheap day returns are valid as if nothing changed, and the trainline is slightly better but still mixed up. (From KX shows the changes, but not from Finsbury Park)
