Northern are appaling - We still have the Barbie Scheme as well as the original 'North West Trains' star schemes in evidence, plus a number of ex-Arriva units in Regional Railways livery with multiple patches. Also the Metro Train livery, but that may be a WYPTE thing.
I like the new livery a lot - it isn't too over the top, but looks nice and modern.

I think that's the lot
It amazes me that a decade after privatisation began, old BR liveries are still about. Last weekend I headed down to Buxton to see my girlfriend, and the 156 I took from Piccadilly to Buxton was still in Regional Railways livery with Northern patches... how do they manage no to paint these things for so long?!

I don't know - but it must confuse foreign visitors to see a NorthernRail.org 156, next to a TPX 185 and be told that the train in the middle with the basic First livery is actually operating for Northern. It must confuse most Brits as well!

I've given up caring
I know that Preston or Manchester means a 175, Manchester to the girlfriend means a 150 or 156, and going back to see the folks means something operated by Virgin!
Although, in all seriousness, it can be very confusing trying to get a train when none of the operators actually have thier own distinct identity.

Yes, the Buxton adverts on the 150s (if they're still there)Have I missed any out?
Here is a photo of the Northern service to Barrow at Carlisle:

What's funny is that the Northern Spirit livery is now 2 franchises out of date!

I don't know about 156s, but the 465/466 stock on South Eastern lines (connex, SET, whatever GoAway are calling it...), in addition to WAGN 365s remained in their NSE livery because there was a ~15 year guarantee on the paintwork. Though CSE did vinyl some of their networker stock (365s particuarly).

Doubt there was a guarantee on the 156s/150s as they're covered in patches!
I was aware of the Buxton 156 livery but considered it a variation of the Northern 3 livery. It doesn't seem long ago that the last GMPTE and Tyne liveries dissapeared.

And at the time the paint was guaranteed there was no such thing as grafitti removerarabiandisco wrote:I don't know about 156s, but the 465/466 stock on South Eastern lines (connex, SET, whatever GoAway are calling it...), in addition to WAGN 365s remained in their NSE livery because there was a ~15 year guarantee on the paintwork. On a related matter, did you know that all railway paint is now water based to bring it in line with EU directives? Much more environmentally friendly but only lasts something like 6 years. Not sure if it lasts longer or not with vinyls stick over the top.

I like the new livery, quite nice, but some suggestions... I do think they should lose the 'squiggly' bit of the lines behind the cab doors of the power car, and extend the lines around the nose maybe. Some imaginative use of the awful yellow on the nose too, I don't like the way it curves down the sides of the light clusters, loses the 'speed' look i think. The lettering could be improved too, italics?

How is it two franchises? Arriva Trains Wales wasn't a refranchise, it was MTL Holdings (operators of Northern Spirit) rebranding itself. MTL Buses also became Arriva at the same time.Thrashin wrote:What's funny is that the Northern Spirit livery is now 2 franchises out of date!
