Kids go free on the tube good idea or not???

it`l only lead to more vandalism and misery for people who just want to go about there connections or, you could argue, would kids bother to ride LU all day?

Since they must be accompanied by an adult, this move is hardly likely to result in millions of kids riding the rails all day just for fun.

I think that the accompanied children (off-peak) is a brilliant idea, the only problem could be then that the children could approach a total stranger to help them get onto the thube, and the they remain on the tube all day while the adult goes on with their lives.

Yes, if they are accompanied and can only travel of peak on the most congested routes. It would also be wise to apply the same ASBO rules as on buses and trams to it, even though the "chavs" I witness on the trams in the daily journey to school still are troublesome.

Why not, most of them already travel on the trains for free. *cough*

hey children off peak what a scam, as they are at shcool during the off peak hours on a week day and if they use the tube with mummy and daddy, it'd be on peak.

i use the tube everyday to get to work, like most Londoners. lol.

And i find it difficult enough to get a seat to travel to wimbledon, let alone with the raging hordes of kids that travel on the Wimbledon Branch. Yes i used to be one of them until last year...

It is a bad idea i reckon, as it will then give Livingstone another excuse for a fare's increase to make up for the lost profits and more government subsidies... (Sigh) but no-one listens to someone who speaks any sense, let alone someone who has an opinion... lol.

It's a good idea, partly as it encourages off-peak travel when there is spare capacity in the system - don't forget, their 'accompanying adult' will be paying the off-peak rate, so there is extra revenue coming in. Which should, in theory, reduce the net loss of operating off-peak services. It's also a very savvy political move on the part of Ken Livingstone - because it reduces the cost of travel to families with young children, many of whom will be on low incomes, so good marks for Social Inclusion, Ken.

One presumes it might well be connected to the Oystercard scheme, so if they are causing trouble, the little brats can be traced...

its also incoraging truancy when kids tell there parents that they are ill these days, the parents let them off, and generally take them shopping with them. over the bank holiday period it will be of use yes and when schools are closed. Personally i think anyone under 16 should pay to travel anyone under the age of 5 free.

You ought to use the bus. It's the way to get around london in style. If you consider a big red cuboid to be style. But my experience has been that over almost all journeys the bus is no slower than the tube and a much more pleasant travelling experience. And it's cheaper. win-win-win

you can see out of a bus but who'd want to choke on traffic fumes, its actually better to travel underground health wise.
