I think it is a good idea. Anything that encourages public transport usage is good.

I disagree with your arguments here. Most of the parents I know dread children being sick since that means they need to take a day off to take care of them. Of course, if the majority of parents in your area don't work then that doesn't apply.

A lot of councils (both in London and elsewhere) do truancy "sweeps" where at shopping centres they stop adults with school age children with them on schools days and require evidence to explain why the children are not in school. My understanding is that if the child is "off sick" but well enough to go shopping then our council returns them to school.

However, this does not solve the problem of when a child is physically sick at school the parents get called to collect them and keep them out for a day afterwards. That doesn't stop me taking them shopping the next day on school "enforced" absence. I am just waiting for the day that happens to me so I can tacke the truancy people.

Cheers

It's a good plan - it puts good things in kids heads about using public transport, and it might get some more converts to our hobby!

Ah - that is a shame - they seem to be quite effective. My main beef with them is that they target the shopping centres rather than residential areas as well.

slightly off topic rant
I work at home 2 days each week and we were unfortunate to have nightmare neighbours for a while about 2 years ago. We live in a terrace of houses and the guy who owns the next door house let it out. The woman renting it had 4 children (one of which was his). They were kids from hell. She took them to seconday school at 08:45 and by 09:15 the eldest boy would be back home with the music on. Thud, thud, thud etc. through the walls. Numerous calls to the school and truancy office produced no action. Eventually he kicked them out after some disagreement or another and they moved elsewhere on the estate.

Cheers

i know the situation is worse in telford, they have train jumpers over there or used to around the lightmoor area. Kids jumping on the Coal trains to and from the power station whilst they are on the move.

Back on topic, no its a bad idea, this could lead to big cousin taking troble out to town. it only takes someone over the age of 18 to take a kid into town.
