I disagree with your arguments here. Most of the parents I know dread children being sick since that means they need to take a day off to take care of them. A lot of councils (both in London and elsewhere) do truancy "sweeps" where at shopping centres they stop adults with school age children with them on schools days and require evidence to explain why the children are not in school. My understanding is that if the child is "off sick" but well enough to go shopping then our council returns them to school.
However, this does not solve the problem of when a child is physically sick at school the parents get called to collect them and keep them out for a day afterwards. That doesn't stop me taking them shopping the next day on school "enforced" absence. I am just waiting for the day that happens to me so I can tacke the truancy people.
