Comfort breaks

Post by oldrocker »

Horrible Americanism I know but . . .

I've just been running the KingsX to Peterborough HST acivity in ECE and just about Sandy I'm desperate for a leak. Well I'm running under greens, there's no particular problem so I reckon I've got a minute or so to go to the downstairs WC.

Thing is, what happens if this happens in real life ? :D

Most locos have a toilet of some variety (peaks have a urinal in the ETH/ boiler compartment), though you'd need someone to take over driving for you or the deadman will stop the train...

I've seen drivers at Lancaster jump out and use the gents, which is right opposite the stop point for shorter trains such as Voyagers and 175's. I have also seen a few late departures as a result!

On the South West Trains netwrok, most drivers on 444/450 stock will use the on board loo at a convenient station.

With the amount of time SWT put into their timetables a couple of December 2004 ususally leave Right Time as well

Apparently it wasn't unknown for certain 'uncouth' drivers to take a splash out of the cab door while hurtling along, or to go in the corner of the engine room.

Out the door, into a bottle. Of course with early diesels and some units there would be the option of out the connection at the front, although I wouldn't advise it when the train's moving!

I knew a Connex driver who mentioned people stopping in tunnels are going out the drivers cab door.

Needs must. Quite often drivers will stop next to a signal no matter what aspect, and use the loo- or out of the door, depending on location. If you are desperate, concentration will dip considerably as you are thinking about needing the toilet- not driving, stopping at a green signal to use the toilet is not such a bad thing, as the train behind will be at a red signal :)

Why do you think we always carry a couple of empty plastic bottles in the kit bag?!

LMAO

For that, a trip to the 'real' toilet is obviously required, with a newspaper for company usually :)
