Do you have what it takes???

Post by danielw2599 »

Someone over on the Railchat forums has made a piece of software that replicates one of the tests used by TOCS when testing potential candidates.

Do you have what it takes?

Be prepared for a headache at the end of it :D

Could some one tell me if these are good results or not:

Perception and Attention:
Targets omitted 7
Marked Incorrect 1

Speed:
Total cells 763
Mean Cell time 0.501
Median Cell time 0.390

Completed rows 28
Mean row time 12.775
Median row time 12.275

Vigilance 8.75

I think these are OK but i'd like to know if i'd pass (or not). Sorry for the long post. If there is another way to tell hogh well I did without listing EVERYTHING could someone tell me. Thanks

Unfortunatly no one knows the pass rate as its a well kept secret within the industry.

Best to keep at it and save each of you scores, then compare them later on to see how your doing. Also when you first start, dont worry about speed just remember to be accurate. Speed will come later on when your more used to it.

Keep at it

Ditto! the "group bourdon" was the only thing I failed on...........otherwise I would have been driving 390's by now :)

You're only allowed 2 goes at it.

I only took one, so theoretically I could have another go, but it was probably for the best - my boredom threshold is too low to drive trains for a living, which is why I failed the concentration part of the test.

Life goes on, and if I'd passed I'd be driving plastic for chiltern. This way, I should be able to drive a real loco, albeit on a preserved line...

My Dad had a go at the real test once, but failed the reaction times section. So then he went off to drive buses instead

I don't even know what you have to do on this test. All I see is thousands of dots!

Your supposed to select each selection of dots that only contain 4 dots, you must leave out sections that contain 3 or 5 dots. You can only move left to right and you can only go back one space to correct an error. To select a section press the up arrow, to de select it press the up arrow again.

To move left press the left arrow and right to move right and you only have 2 minutes per sheet (there are 5 sheets)

Its supposed to test concentration during repetitive tasks.

As I said, its the same test as TOCs use when recruiting

Good luck :)

While im not a professional at data analysis and there are no known information on the pass rate, your results look ok for the most part.

A couple of points tho if I may...."18 targets omitted" suggests you either wernt concentrating enough, or you were going to fast. Its not really about speed its about accuracy (Tho if you take to long you will fail  )

Try and get omitted/incorrect marks down to single figures.

And have plenty of headache tablets handy!

Well, my results for the first page of the test were somewhat disappointing, as it really was my first go. And yes I was in a hurry as well! Also, I was "under the influence" as they say. Still, managed to do 10 accurate stops on the BVE4 Northern Line which is a new record, and I have a witness as well!
