Buy a loco?

Post by LeeEAS »

Hi, :D, I was thinking:
Does anyone know how much it would cost to buy a diesel locomotive (preferably a Class 37) from the scrapline, own it and 'rent' it to a preserved line in the UK, for them to do up or me to help them restore it and let them run it on their line? ...or is this possible?

im only guessing that is lol but from what ive heard and things it could be 45 k to get it to mainline running condition

then again it might only be 10k tops (i think) for a small 03 or 04 (cute things)

I know your guessing, but still :o I'm aiming to atleast get it to run on a preserved line - but mailine condition I may consider later

As I'm too young to buy one yet I have no idea whether I will or will not try.

I don't think anyone would sell a loco to a 15 year old!

hay ive found someone the same age that wants a loco as well :D

just if i had my way it would be a mainline saddle tank lol

but seriusly if you had the money im guessing they would sell it to you as long as you can prove that you have the money and that you will have it off site with in XXX days then i dont think they would care if your a 12 year old lol

Great! I'd love to own my own loco, I was hoping to buy 37427  (when it is taken out of service), and then lend it to the Epping Onger Railway - as it's my closest preserved line! Would I get to choose what livery it will be painted to?

if you brought it then you can paint it pink with a fluffy tail so yea but then you have the thing of its not mainlined certificated so it would need to be road transported (maybe 2 or 3 k i guess)

There is a guy who owns loads of industrials - he's 17 now.

A class 37 is pushing it for a 15 year old - an industrial is much more sensible. I guess about £5 - £10k???

A simplex on 2' gauge is only £800! Have been thinking about one for a while - but can't save enough - whenever I get any money it seems to get spent pretty quickly!!!

It will cost about £2k - £6k to move a loco by rail due to pathing issues.

Around £1,500 on the road for 1 transporter. Of course depends on distance

Well considering 37427 is currently based at the depot in Motherwell, Scotland and the Epping Onger Railway is in North London, I'm guessing it's ganna cost alot! :( Of course: where will it be when I buy it?
