Alistair

What a fantastic shot.

You know their are some really breathtaking sights on our
rail network.

The shot is made complete by the fact that you were travelling on an
HST

Winces, although I would love 2 lay claim 2 such a photo, it isn't mine I found it on google images. I do have a shot of 2 Intercity HSTs crossing the Tay Bridge in Scotland somewhere though...

Did You Know that the Romney, Hythe & Dymchurch Railway is the worlds smallest public railway. and most of the locos are now or are nearly 80 years old. The railway has never closed execpt than during the second world war due to its location along the romney marsh coast. However it did see wartime service when it ran trains for the army. Including the worlds only miniture amoured train and carrying pipes for PLUTO.

No-one ever uses it unless it's bright sunshine because it's outside for 98% of the time! :P

I believe that the RHDR is the only railway that still has every one of it's original engines (since the bug returned - 1980s wasn't it?)

lol very funny Jon! :P

There is a road bridge over the lines near the end of the platforms so this covers a tiny bit of the bench. The rest of it is out in the open.

And the Talyllyn wins on that count having all its original coaches to add to its locos.

However Romney does indeed have a superb fleet of locos and it is remarkable that they have all survived especially after the financial troubles the line went through after Howey's death. I'll have to visit there again, it is a most fascinating line- nowhere else like it!

I stand corrected.

I should have made some point about the age as well - no doubt there are railways dotted around that have all their original stock, but which have only been open for 2 years!
