Bewdley signals removed, why???

Post by RobertM »

To all, :D

I remember in the last edition of Heritage Railway there was a photo of the new signals at the south end of Bewdley station, and a small caption that basicaly siad that the SVR had replaced the old signals with a singular tubular post. :o :(

So why have the SVR gone and replaced these signals, as I thought those old signals made a rather nice backdrop for photos :-?

And does anyone have pics of the old & new signals that they can post on here, for comparison

They got rid of them before the wood rotted through and completely fell down...........

The new post is a temprorary measure.

I think the plan is to refurbish what is salvageable from the original Bracket and put it back up in the not too distant future.

The SVR know it is a very good photographical spot and as a member of the railway and a regular visitor they usually always do whats best in terms of customer interest so it would be very likely that it will be used again on the same site but with a new post

yes, as one person who went passed that signal alot over the september thomas weekend (dmu doing bewdley station shuttles) about the back half of the base of the bracket (from ground level) up a few feet was completelly rotten and had fallen away. it was starting to become a safety issue so had to be removed and replaced with the temporary one thats there at the moment

I was discussing this last week with a member of SVR staff, they said people have been ringing up and moaning at them that the nice signal has gone. Only to be told it will be back with a brand new wooden post. The railway press seemed to have missed the word 'temporary' out of their articles!

oh it will be you have my word, kidderminster will be the only place you can have a full english breakfast in style, go to a victorian toilet, get the latest copy of a selected variety of magazines, models, have lunch in style then go to the pub, drink up on a friday night, go to bridgnorth on a DMU, have fish and chips and a couple of pints at the railwaymans arms, DMU back go to the king and castle and still make the kebab run later.

The toilets on the GCR stink, although I'm told it's designed to be period! So whether it's a good place to have a dump is another matter :)
