FEBURARY 11th Steam Shrewsbury - Paddington

Post by salopiangrowler »

Hi just like you all to know King Edward is doing Shrewsbury to Paddington via the midlands in an as near to original old route as possible run.

LONDON

Saturday 11th February, 2006

ENJOY MEMORIES OF THE OLD 'CAMBRIAN COAST EXPRESS' AS WE STEAM FROM SHREWSBURY TO LONDON PADDINGTON BEHIND ex-GREAT WESTERN RAILWAY 'KING EDWARD I'

With nostalgia high on the agenda the 'Cambrian Coast Express' with ex- Great Western 'King Edward I' in charge, recreates as far as possible its original run between Shrewsbury and Paddington. Travelling in Style with chocolate and cream liveried carriages, our journey takes us across the West Midlands, down the Cherwell Valley and through the lovely Chilterns. Water stops will be taken at Birmingham International and Banbury Yard, before grandly steaming into Brunels Paddington Station.

There will be three hours available for exploration of the Capital at your own pace or perhaps enjoy our special coach tour (see below).

The return journey will be made with a veteran Class 47 express diesel, which also used to work the 'Cambrain Coast Express' after the steam haulage finished in the early 1960's.

An original 'Cambrian Cost Express' headboard will be proudly carried by 6024 on this day.

OPTIONAL COACH TOUR OF THE LONDON SIGHTS

Soon after arrival, comfortable road coaches will set out on a tour that will take in many famous sights including Buckingham Place, Westminster Abbey, the Tower of London, the South Bank, House of Parliament and more. To add to your enjoyment 'Blue Badge' guides provide a commentary and will be happy to answer any questions. The tour should take a little over two hours before returning to Paddington Station.

I'm going the other way on that day with Lizzie from Birmingham International to Liverpool. Both steamers start their respective workings from International I was led to believe. What price both there at the same time?

Ohhh ahhh, a King calling at Codsall? I bet the station master would have gone red in the face at the thought of that 'back in the day'!

There's nothing wrong with 47s! They're the best trains around (after 37s & 40s)! :x
