Dr. Peter Beet- a tribute

Sad to read this in the new issue of Heritage Railway, but Dr Beet has died, Railway Preservation has a lot to thank this guy for, a very sad loss. One of steam preservation's pioneers lost.

Without his aforethought in '68 we may not now have 45407, 44871 or 46441 as well as numerous industrials. We may not have Leander once again gracing the national network had he not bought it and financed much of the restoration. Also, thanks to him I and many others saw a continental flavour at Carnforth with the massive German and French Pacifics that he used to keep there.

National Preservation? A godawful forum filled to the brim with inaccurate information. One of the worst there is.

Dave, its been on the ELR forum for a month, have you joined over there yet?

I wouldnt call it innacurate, although theres some tripe in general chat as you would expect just like the open forum here, the steam, whats going on sections etc are where all the helpful and decent information is. Saying its been on the ELR forum for months is a slight exageration as it happened just before their gala which was almost exactly a month ago.

1. It hasn't been posted in this forum.
2. I don't scan every "train enthusiast" website or forum (perish the thought)
3. David's post was informative and helpful

On topic: It's very sad. I've enjoyed his contributions to steam preservation, even if I winced when I saw what they had to do to Carnforth to get the two locos indoors!

I was on there, but things were getting nasty with sensitive issues that I have nothing to do with, so I've stayed clear.
