3850 steams again, after 40yrs!!!!!

Post by dinmore »

Today, after 40 years since withdrawal from service in August 1965, GWR heavy freight 2-8-0 no. 3850 moved succesfully under her own power up and down the yard at Tyseley locomotive works :D . It has taken 21 years to get to this point after being bought from Barry scrapyard in 1984 for preservation. There are now a number of minor jobs to be completed over the course of the next ten days, mostly cosmetic, before she is transported to the West Somerset Railway to be run-in ready for the santa specials. On the return load 7820 "Dinmore Manor" will return to Tyseley for her overhaul to commence. Anyone who may be interested in getting involved please visit our website.

Cheers for the comments guys, I will be glad to see her go! spent the last 11 days in a row working on her and will be there for much of this week too :( !!!! work is on course for completion this week, including final painting, completion of steam heat piping, final boiler inspection on friday and then a WSR inspection on monday. All being well she will then leave Tyseley on tuesday for the WSR to be run in etc. But then the whole process will start again with the return of Dinmore!!! :-? Must be mad

I'm sure we'd have her  A nice 4575 to go with our 4500 and 5101.

You have far too many engines as it is! Now, up on the Moors - I'd like to do a couple of cleaning turns on that!
