It is the truth as I work there and checked all the tickets 70% wore enthusiasts as they had linesid permits only 30% wore normal public you should come and actually see and I did not say the train was carrying passangers I work there and the train was a driver experience no a puclic train and for going over 25mph the GCR has applied for a licence and the track is passed for that as the inspection has been done where just waiting for the licence and none fo thr stories are unture I know the GCR staff there mostly over 4o yeard old and would not lie the people who do lie dont work for the GCR there just the regular visitors who will say anything they here.

70%? Dream on ;).
and for going over 25mph the GCR has applied for a licence and the track is passed for that as the inspection has been done where just waiting for the licence
Sure you applied, but you haven't got it yet, which confirms your still limited to 25mph, Driver experience or not.

No we are passed to go up to 60mph for non passangers trains like mail drops freight trains and driver experience test trains and we do do hight speeds like on this months night mail drop it was arround 40mph when the train went through and do your research first read this http://www.gcrailway.co.uk/more/press.htm#speed

Any train as long as public are not on it can go up to 60's and driver training included as that is a non public train

And if you check the HMRI site this will confirm that

Also SVR can go higher speeds as they tested some new units at higher speeds on their line for First Group

This doesn't include driver experience trains however, which is what I am on about. Not once have I mentioned TPOs or freights.

These are still limited to 25 mph.

I already knew that, Rory and Matt had explained that to me and i've seen a mail drop at Quorn before. But it's unlikly that you'll actually pass a train at high speeds if you're on a public train, as most will pass at the regular 25mph.

More often that not, you don't actually pass much at the GCR anyway; I've been to the GCR enough times and seen locos enter and leave Rothley Platforms at the same time.

The SVR can go up to 50mph for training purposes on set sections of line, so long as there are no public trains running and there is nobody lineside etc.

Your right there most trains pass at rothley but there surposed to pass at swithland sidings which most do if the train is late it wont the only train you will pass at a high speed is a freight train or mail train (non passanger) proberbly will be next year when they get permission to run passanger trains fast thats 35mph on the single track section and 50 on the doubble track section but they say they will only do that at gala's

The rates on your lineside passes are disgusting. I wanted to go for one day and got told £25. sickening. £10 maybe, but no more.

Then again what should be expected from a railway that claims to be one of 'the big 'uns' yet in reality is in the 2nd or 3rd divison

They dont do day pases £25 is for a whole year which is value for money you can get great photos from the side of the line without going to the line side like footpath that goes down from kintchley lane I dont know if any other railways do day passes and for what they charge for passes they do do

JOHN

may i remind you that no train travels about the speed imposed on us by the HMRI - that speed is 25mph and 10mph through rothley

we never break the speed limit and any occations that we have drivers have been servearly repremended and in some cases susspended from footplate duties

trains on the GCR which are permited to go higher than 25mph are Traveling Post OFfice exchanges as the equipment does not work at 25mph - these trains are permited either 35 mph or 45 (im affraid i forget which)

Other trains permited higher speeds are test trains for running in purposes and speed tests for main line these trains are permitted to 60mph and no higher - and tests must be conducted between Loughborough and Rothley and not on the Leicester North Section

On the subject of visiting locomotives - Yes they do bring in the public - 92212 from the Midhants Railway way and 73129 from the Midland Railway Centre Butterly respectivly both drew the crowed for our Autumn gala , to me this means that the public are intested in a loco coming to visit the railway and that it does improve the attendance at an event

Regarding the Speed Limit Increase Project - we are not trying to increase the speed on the single track section between Rothley and Leicester North - this is to stay at 25mph - the section we are trying to increase is the Loughborough to Rothley Section to 45, to do this AWS, Central Door Locking, and many items of P Way and track side (such as fences) would have to be upgraded, if the line required AWS for 45 MPH running it means that the railway would only be allowed to do it if all engines had AWS - i can not see the NRM ever allowing the 04 to have AWS installed - doing so would limit the engines that can visit the line

I would like to take this opertunity to remind Johncas that the HMRI and soon the rail buro (or what ever it is to be called as brought up in the last edition of Steam Railway magazine) read these groups and comments such as that do not help us or any other railway

what i have heard is that we have got to install AWS if we want to go above the 25MPH line speed, Loughborough and quorn have been install ready for the AWS, but as we have had some AWS stuff nicked, we have got to wait for some newer equinpiment,

david i no wot u feel about the railway, Asn't go any challenges. or we got the same loco at the same gala, i can understand that, i get bord firing the same loco evey time i'm there. have you got any ideas that the railway should do at gala,

what i would love is different engines, there are two loco that r in talk with at the mo
Thanks

I went to the CGR on a normal operating day and the driver experience with Ditcheat manor were doing a damn site faster than 25 even through Quorn and Woodhouses station. it took everyone by suprise really as it was absolutley belting through.a nice site of course a GWR Manor on full choke, brought a tear to my eye.

Jon, when you say wore i assume you mean were :) anyway

GCR are passed out to do 60mph, Freight, TPO, and non passenger carrying services, of which the driver experience does not carry fare paying passengers, only those who are relatives of the drivers under instruction, who travel free if they wish, should they trust whoevers at the controls  .

Any guest loco would do for me but we have to do with what we have hireing in a guest loco for each gala will be ok but at normal weekends we have to do with what we have and guest loco will bring in some more passangers I know everyone would want to see a dutchess class or the scotsman but you cant just get them when you want but any guest loco is better than no guest loco.

And as for guest locos I would like to see Butler Henderson and the 04 Running togather
