Windemere 37's!!!

Post by RobertM »

To all, :D

I ahve noticed that durung the week, at around midnight, two class 37's plus two wagons (can't say what type due to the light) make there way down the line to Windemere and then back again. (making a hell of a racket as english-electric engines do) :x

I know that they are sparying SANDITE in an attempt to stop trains slipping on the gradients of the line

I was wondering where this train is stabled during the day, as at Midnight the only real thing that you can see is the lights inside the cab :)

You'll probably not see it there as it's possibly the longest duration train in the UK! (apart from freights which spend hours in sidings). Starts at Kingmoor about half 4 in the afternoon, runs over the S&C to Preston, goes to Barrow, on to Windermere, then back to Preston and home the way it came at 13:00, if things go to plan! On some days I think it's planned to do a quicker run.

Were seeing 37's on Merseyrail twice every weekend. Starts at Crewe at 6am, goes to Holyhead, then Chester, Wrexham, Bidston, back to Chester then Crewe. We also get a sandite MPV from Birkenhead-West Kirby every week night (I should know, the bloody things make a hell of a lot of noise when your trying to get 40 winks!).

I'd be happy to be woken up by a syphon... (A wagon would be nicer, of course)

To hear a proper loco on full bore? I'd let it wake me at 3am. And 3.05. And 3.10...

I'd love to be woken up by a tractor hammering past, even at 1 am...

Whenever, it would be awesome, IMO!!!

:P :P

Or would love to see a spoon or a crompton as well...

Any of those would be worth waking up for, any day!!! :D

Or have they!!!!!! Theres a legal proceeding going on at the moment between WCR and a group of preservationist's which involve on of the swapped 37's which are still at carnforth. DRS have declined to comment but state tey my not be nterested in WCR's offer in the 37's until it becomes clear wether of not the Engine in one of the 37's belongs to Type Three Tracion group, ill go into more detail when i know more.
