Class 66 :)

They do almost anything from 08 duties to thundering through Bletchley at 75 mph on long and heavy freightliners.

I voted for the 66 simply because it's probably the most elegant loco running on modern day rails.
How it compares in performance, reliability or sound to any of the others, I care not - it looks nice :)

60's first

57's second

66's third

and 67's fourth

their my favourite modern day freight loco.
60's because they sound exactly how they look, big bulky and powerful
66's Acceleration on long heavy freights, and of course being canadian built, i love canada.
57's sound absolutely brilliant and the addition of alternators from 56's which are slowly being replaced combined with GM power gives them a piercing scream on full throttle.
67's well next time you seen one on the fast line at doncaster on full throttle, close your eyes, HST or Deltic. they maybe over weight but they're loud and proud.

It was a toss up between a 60 and 92, as they are both (IMO) highly attractive machines. 60s shade it because they look more imposing, and an unsilenced Mirlees engine..... :) (course, you'd have to unsilence it, but when they enter preservation, someone will...)

If your alternator is screaming it's about to break.

They have a nice turbo whine though.

your right, i should have read the title.... "MODERN"

we dont have class 37's (built between 1960 and 1965)... but we do have:

Class 73's built around 1962
Class 86's built between 1965 and 1966
Class 87's built between 1973 and 1975

They hardly seem "MODERN".....

but thanks for the "read the title advice" anyway......

i thought it more as locos that you can see on freight nowadays, hence no 37, 47, 56 or 58

I know out of 37 and 47s are still in use, but the main freight seen is dominated by 66s and 60s (among others) yous know what i meen
