Not surprising, considering they were the first of the LNER pacifics, indeed the first successful pacifics in Britain (the Great Bear was a waste of time  ) it was inevitable that the LNER produced better engines after them. After all, the LNER was company that moved with the times, unlike some others I could mention
JonPotter wrote:how many SR's do you have now?
The total of my rail mags currently stands at 815, but they're not all SR's obviously! My SRs range from issue 3 to current but there are a lot of gaps.

A Manor is more fun to work with that any of those!

Great sound, nice neat outline and an absolute doddle to fire (in real life anyway!)!

Best Mixed traffic engine:
The 'Grange' class, my father always said to me that if you see a grange on a freight you knew the freight was gonna be a mile long, and then if a grange was summoned to a passeger job you coulde garuntee top class performance and an early arrival at every station.

Best Non mixed Traffic Engine (Passenger)
Kings, Without a doubt 100mph + even before scotsman did it.

Best Non Mixed Traffic Engine (Freight)
Collets 2 - 8 - 0t mainstay of the south wales coal fields excellent service history.

Deans goods comes in close as a good reliable engine also

Best Branchline Engine (passenger)
Small prarie's cute lil things good on both passenger and freight.

Best branchline engine (Freight)
Panier\saddle tank o - 6 - 0 small quick reliable and britians most loved little engines, if it werent for these thomas would look lost amongst gordan james and henry.

Give 'em a break MuzTrem - no other railway could match that quaint Victorian feel - perfect for a tourist line and not much else

Flying Scotsman was the first 100mph loco. The dynamometer car proved it. End of story.
Now name me one King that has run London-Edinbourgh non-stop....

No it wasn't.................

A lanky Highflier did it first!

Big Wow, non stop London to Edinburgh- a Midland Compound did that one before the Scotsman was inaugurated!

And to the GWR's defence they were sensible (like the LMS except for a notable publicity stunt) they said there was no need for non stop as such trains would not have been economically viable on their systems!- why bypass Bristol, Exeter and Plymouth to go non-stop to penzance!

Cheltenham Flyer was born before the Flying Scotsman express and the cheltenham flyer was were truro broke the record a few years before scotsman did. i bet you a king or castle have done it during the swap me your loco trails.
