Ith's a mystery

Post by oldrocker »

No not a Toyah resurgance.

I was at Wolverhampton station today about 5.15 and a DMU left from the other side towards Birmingham. I know the destination indicators are usually dim but I'm sure that this one said 'Mystery Excursion'.

Know you of such a thing or was the driver having a laugh?

Probably having a laugh. I saw a 350 Desiro head off in the Liverpool direction with The Mafia On Tour as a destination, so most likely a route learner or ECS.

Hmm, I sense a contest to find the best suggestion for the destination indicator. Maybe should be on the Open Forum tho'

There was a picture on somebody's picture site showing a 222 with 'Thomas' on the PIS display.

Pretty lame, but I've seen a 159 with "Sheringham" on the display.

Not a destination blind, but I did hear a story once of a station announcer on the tube who was fired for saying "the next train is arriving from another dimension..."

I've got a video of a Meridian with a scrolling front display showing 'ON OUR WAY HOME !!!!'

And it was in service on a Nottingham - Barnsley train too.

Oh, if a Turbostar isn't working right, you get

Class 170
Turbostar

As the destination, except it's in cool font

I remember seeing Hunstanton on a "heritage" DMU in New Street back in the 1980's, nearly twenty years after Hunny had closed. Some of the Class 310's also had destinations which were well off the wires "just in case" they were ever electrified. Windermere is one that I do remember, but there were others.
