87012

Post by johndibben »

87012 has 'taken root' in Bletchley's good loop and been there since saturday. It's coupled to a class 325 unit which has been there since Thursday. This is of 2030 last night.

A well used loop out of action for 5 days!

87012 and 87019 still haul the Willesden Railnet to Sheildsmuir 12-car class 325 train.

Havn't a clue why.

Possibly the class 325's are in poor mechanical condition?

87012 went north Friday on the 1S96 Willesden to Sheildsmuir and 87019 I think pulls it between Warrington and Sheildsmuir

Hi John

I could be wrong, but I believe it is because the Cotswold Rail (who I understand are the train operaters) drivers, are not passed out on the 325's, but are on the 87's?

I think that's the reason why...

In german the word for boiler is exactly the same as that for kettle... Now what does that tell you about steam locos?

on the 31/8 87012+325004/8/9 was working 1s96 1626 willesden - shieldmuir when the driver requested to be looped at Bletchley as the train was not pulling to well, on examination it was discovered that the "loco hauled" button on one of the 325s was defective. Loco was detatched an units were ok after that. That explains the 87.

The 325 was there because it had plastic sheeting wrapped round the traction motor which went on fire and caused the traction motor to seize and needs to be skated back to wembley, which happened earlier today about 2am (hauled by 87012)

It was transhipped by armed guards onto a train all in black that arrived from the strategic reserve.

It's GBRf who operate the trains, but they may not have enough 325 passed drivers.

I thought that for a month or two.

Now wondering whether GBRf are using it to maintain driver's familiarity with class 87's?

87019 ran south on Friday just behind the 325s:

I thought the 87s were there part on driver training, and part thunderbird duties.

they are Thunderbirds that supposed to stay at willesden or rugby GBRf have enough 325 drivers but use an 87 to save money on the 6 monthly refreshment corse which cost's the company over 5 grand as the practicle leasons happen on the WCML.

My fellow enthusiasts (I'm not a spotter, even if the others are) at Bletchley thank you for the answers above :)

At first they wondered why I'm there if I'm not a spotter?

I told about trainsimming.

Their eyes glazed over :o

Must be only person who's felt like taking a pad and paper to look like a trainspotter? :)
