Might be tempted to miss that one then - think I'd be bored to death  . I'll have to find somewhere with decent traction that weekend  :) .

Well just so long as a couple of the locos operating at any one time are of LNER and/or LMS origin, everyone will be happy

The J27 on the Grosmont-Goathland shuttles, a Black 5 on one of the 8 coach rakes, what do you say?

a GWR gala in Yorkshire.

Now, I'm not claiming to be an expert, but wouldn't the people who would want to go to a pure GWR event be more likely to live in the South West/ Wales?

Which of course would be better than all LNER ;). 45407 and 6233 are two of the most reliable locos on the mainline today, wheras 4472 and 61264 are constantly failing...tells you something doesn't it

Didn't realise NR were going into charter operations now! Are EWS really that bad? Or am I missing something?

6233 and 45407 are also two of the best looked-after steam locos on the main line today. Flying Scotsman had virtually nothing spent on her maintainance from 1999-2004 so it's no wonder she's knackered. Her reliablility was much better before then!

Wasn't the J27 in service at the time of the gala? I'm sure iit was in the months leading up to it. I can't say that I wasn't a bit dissapointed when I saw a GWR tank (of all things!) at the head of the Grosmont-Goathland shuttles.

"Sorry we messed up the natives' gala slightly, but if you just so happen to be visiting from the West Country, you'll love this!!"
