NYMR Steam to Whitby.

Post by spartacus »

Does anybody know what the NYMR's plans are for next week's trains to Whitby, as I'm aware that this week's services were cancelled due to a loco failure. I thought 76079 a back up to 45407, but presumably both were out of service.

I'm going up there on Wednesday regardless, but would like to know in advance what services will be running, with which loco, and what was the cause of their failure this week, if anyone here knows.

Cheers.

From what I read on the steamdreams forum 45407 had a small problem with priming that loosened the piston head. Should be fixed pretty soon.

76079 is being used on the Cambrian route at the moment.

76079 is back to the Moors on a L/E movement on Tuesday

45407 is booked in on Monday morning - not sure if it will happen.

Mon - Wed were booked 45407, and the trip on Thur with 76079.

I'm there all next week - probably with the A3 on Wed as well.

Cheers guys, although I'd heard 76079 was now moving on Wednesday?

No - it's definately on Tuesday. It runs in 2 sections - Crewe - Carnforth, where it takes the WCRC coaches from the Cambrian, and Carnforth - Grosmont, which is engine & support coach. I don't know the times yet, though.

I think both are booked for Tuesday but I'm not 100%. I only get my info from http://www.uksteam.info and a friend of mine who's an NYMR volunteer.

what is happening is that two visiting diesels, i think they are ian rileys, i dont know for sure, had both failed around the vacuum pipe area and needed to be mended at bury, 45407 has gone to bury to take them there and will be back in a few days.

the whitby trains will be back to normal next week. ( must leave on a good note musn't I ?!!!!

Can I just supply the correct version of events here.

D200 and the ex-Royal 47 (owned by the NRM) were scheduled to be taken to York by 45407 on Friday to save some movement costs as both locos are visiting the Crewe open day in a couple of weeks. However there was a problem with a lack of required paperwork from the NRM so the locos were unable to travel. So 45407 went off on its own, apparently after some minor problems of its own and has been nowhere near Bury.

45407 is due back from York sometime today I believe, although I can't be bothered to ring Grosmont and find out exactly when. The Whitby trains are running as advertised I'm told, obviously bar any last minute problems with the booked loco.

I can confirm 45407 hasn't touched ground in Bury.
