The Sherwood Forester

Post by ahardy »

Hi guys.

Just saw 45231 come through Maidstone East on its first railtour to Canterbury. Right on time, but the station staff were joking with the photographers that it had failed and had a 66 on the front!

Here are the pics...

My thoughts exactly
I don't mind riding behind a steamer but I just can't look at photos of them. Their liveries are so boring :)

Thats not Sherwood Forester! Thats a kettle!

The real Sherwood is, of course, 45060

I'd rather have the steam Sherwood Forester anyday! Much more fun to drive/ fire etc a steam loco in my opinion than a diesel. And what's wrong with steam liveries, the 5 in BR black is a darned sight smarter looking than most gaudy liveries around today. Admitedly though a few more pre-1948 liveries wouldn't go amiss, there's quite a few black 5s about but none are operational in LMS livery for a start.

Well I keep saying to people, we should paint engines in interesting pre-1948 liveries, not those ghastly ones BR came up with in the 50's, but nobody ever listens....

Wow... and this time it isn't all bent and distorted in photoshop.. er, sorry, your camera  And it isn't at waterloo, either ;) ;)

Nice to see another preserved loco back on the mainline, be it steam or diesel.. it's variety and thats the most important thing IMO.
