According to 'Steam Railway' (17th June):

"LNWR 'Super D' 0-8-0 No. 49395 is booked to haul its first train for 45 years at the Churnet Valley Railway's gala over June 25/26. Participation...depended on the success of a final steam test at sponsor Pete Waterman's LNWR Co. works at Crewe on June 16. Chief Engineer Steve Latham - a CVR volunteer - is, however, confident enough for the gala to be publicised with No. 49395 at the top of the bill. He told Steam Railway on June 8: "We're just about to weigh the engine. Then all we need to do is some final checks before it carries out some steam tests in the yard at Crewe. "If there are no problems, then it can go to the railway. However, if there is anything that needs attention, then it's staying here. This is an engine which hasn't steamed for almost 50 years. We therefore want to do the best job we can on it before we send it out."...The NRM's speed record-breaker, GWR 4-4-0 No. 3440 City of Truro, will share some of the duties with residents 'Austerity' 0-6-0ST 'No. 68030' and American'S160' 2-8-0 No. 5197. No. 49395 is expected to make its debut on the second day...The CVR is aiming to serve up a double-helping of Swindon hardware at its gala by running 'Manor' 4-6-0 No. 7821 Ditcheat Manor alongside visiting guest celebrity engine City of Truro. 'Ditcheat' owner Ken Ryder has been approached for the loan of his Great Central Railway-based locomotive, which is also earmarked to be the star turn at the CVR's 'Photography Day' on Tuesday June 28."

This is a gala I am definately not going to miss!

Antony.
