Yeah, that's the problem. Doubtless there's a way around it though.

Is that like red diesel - dodgy cheap stuff involving defrauding the customs?
Nope, its a Kola flavoured drink, thats Red in colour.
A. G. Barr, Bon Accord etc all make versions
Aye, I know. Was a weak attempt at humour.

When I did the 3440 "return to mainline" kettle run a while back - (wasn't on it for the steam - yuck - it featured a tractor on the return leg :D ) - almost every coach had a mike taped to the roof, with a wire trailing through the quart-light puersumably to a tape recorder or similar..

(Although why anyone would want a tape of 3440 is beyond me :-? ) ;)

Also check out this pic from the D1015 tour, I've circled what I think is a microphone... although it could be some very strange radio device (it's mounted to the support coach, not the loco). Has a muffler on it, so my money would be on it being a microphone..

Enjoy the deltic... :D

Would turning it around help?

Aah, yes, that's the kind of thing I've seen before. Unless it's surveillance as part of the War On Tourism of course...
