In any case - it wouldn't have been April fools day if a few people hadn't of made the effort! All the efforts were superb - but my prize goes to the Virgin Loco Haulage thread.

I'd forgotten that you've had a sense of humour bypass operation, never mind eh, perhaps you would be better employed counting rivets...........

Seems you're good at it.

So I got back from a long day at work and saw this thread was up to three pages. I thought, "Hey, this should be entertaining!"

Not quite.

Q: Have you heard the one about the skeleton that walks into a bar?
A: That's just stupid, skeletons can't walk.

Q: Okay, how about the one where a bear and a rabbit are . beside each other in the woods and the bear says to the rabbit---
A: Are you insane? Bears and rabbits can't speak. And no way would they . beside each other.

Q Well, what about, oh, never mind.

A That isn't a question! Saying "oh, never mind" makes it into a statement! Get it right, man!

Did you hear about the LNER hush-hush locomotive, though?
The experimental Gresley W1 No. 10000 "Hush-Hush" was the only 4-6-4 locomotive to run in Britain. It included a number of experimental features including a marine type water-tube boiler working at 450psi. Although this original design is usually dismissed as a failure due to the revolutionary water-tube boiler, No. 10000 did successfully work a number of high profile trains. No. 10000 was completely rebuilt and re-entered service in 1937 with a conventional boiler and A4-style streamlining. Both before and after rebuilding, No. 10000 never carried a name, although it was often referred to as the "Hush-Hush" due to the initial secrecy of the project.

Oh, alright then, I was joking, OK? Just a little joke... ha ha...

The April fool tradition is that pranks are played up to Midday, but after midday anyone trying to pull a prank is the April Fool.

And all because the french decided to move New Years day

Typical French machinations! They may have set the day of the new year but they've never done anything worthwhile like we have! We invented time and gravity ...and sandwiches. What did they give the world? Hors D'oeuvre and Citroen 2CV's!

But it started out as a question :(

And this post-noon-time April Fool bounce back thing may need a re-think, what with instantaneous global communitcation. I got branded as being an A-F last year when I posted here at 9 am local time, but it was after noon for the UK readers. What happens then?

It's all so upsetting

We invented time and gravity
Um, invented natural occurences?

Time was discovered when someone realised they could use some form of measure to tell them when to do things. Like when youve nearly run out of meat its time to go hunting again.

Just because Newton started thinking about why an apple could fall on his head doesn't mean he discovered it, he managed to create a theory but the first person to discover gravity was the first person who wondered why they allways returned to the ground after jumping.

The french gave the world,
The Metric System
The Barometer

Some are contested though!
