Hull Trains Class 222 Pioneers

Post by laverack2 »

I'm suprised nobody has reported on this, but a new Class 222 visited Hull station around 2 weeks ago. They can get up to 125mph, and are larger and more spacious than the current class 170s. The first will come into service in June, and more will gradually be introduced. A quote from the Hull Trains webste below:-
Technically the 222s offer significantly improved acceleration and speeds up to 125mph that will bring faster journey times which will be introduced incrementally through the national timetable changes; reliability features such as a seamless transition to the second engine, if required, and consequently trains kept to time; more seats, 192 compared with the 159 seat capacity on the Class 170s; greatly enhanced catering facilities in the kitchen and buffet to the benefit of both First and Standard class passengers.

Everyone probably knew about it.
It arrived in Wembley and went to Doncaster Belmont and then to Crofton Depot.

The next two were trapped in Wembley yard after engineering work removed the access points to the siding they were stabled on!

They are now at Crofton undergoing testing and running in.

Image 20 on that page really interests me

If, God forbid, there is a fire on one of these things and you need to get out - follow the floor lights.

Looks more like a hotel than a Train :o
Honestly, I like the look, shame they won't operate between Tamworth and North Wales (Cambrian Coast Route!)

A vast a welcome improvement to the class 170, I'm sure they won't be missed by anyone at Hull Trains as long as the 222's are reliable and no doubt Hull Trains will see even more passengers through extra publicity and improved journey times. All in all a good move, and from a standard class point of view its an improvement on most MK3 carriages, except the under floor vibration machine.

Where are the class 170's headed? Back to Anglia or will they stay with First?

No offence laverack2, but if you wanted to show the pictures off, I think it is only courtesy that you E-Mail Hull Trains themselves and dont leech, that way you could get the full sized Press photo's, not them tiny things.

The 222's like the Voyager's have engines in each vehicle. This redundancy means it can still continue if one or more of the engines cannot operatem - it just means the speed has to be reduced.

Well, I am sure Hull Trains will contact Matt if they have a problem.
I leech photo's from sites in other forums, and have done here - it's easier and quicker, and the guy has put a link to the source, so it's not like he is claiming they are something that they're not :/

I really carn't see a problem with doing what he's done, the pictures are released on their website for general use, if anything he's done the company a favour, its not like the secret.

Are they running on a regular basis now?? I should know the answer being a Hull lad but I live near the Hull/Scarborough and Hull Docks line and only ever see the Hull trains if I'm passing Paragon Station.
