Weekend Juniper diagrams out of Guildford

Post by yerkes »

Hi there,

I'm in Guildford this coming Saturday and wondering whether JOPs are in use these days on Ascot services. I know there are a few of you out there from SWT territory, so can any of you enlighten me?

TIA,

Michael

They mainly go on the Reading services, but they've been known to venture to other areas.

Most likely, although you may find yourself in a slammer, you never know  (saying that I saw an ancient BEP yesterday (i.e. 411 with a buffet) which i was quite astonished at!)

Cheers

I only ever see one anyway, as I'm crossing by sturt lane jcn on the main line - there's sometimes an 8x458 on the Frimley line (headed towards Frimley) as my train (the 0715 ex Basingstoke Yeovil Jcn - Waterloo) crosses. I guess it's probably about 0735 by then.

I live on the Ascot-Guildford line so let me enlighten you all :)

458's regularly now run trains to reading from london via acot, though you get the occasional 421.

450's now run ascot-guildford services, nothing else.

Ade :)

Thanks all for your replies. Guess I won't be seeing many JOPs then (some of you wouldn't be too disappointed by that, I imagine).

Voyager Nut,

OOI why do you prefer 458s to 450s? Is it the design, performance, or what? I've only ever heard bad things about 458s so am intrigued!

True, the 458's have had hundreds of problems whent they were brought into service. This is why desiros have come in. Though they aren't the most reliable, they are about 3 times more reliable then the junipers.

I personally prefer the 450's to the 458's, but i did quite like the 458's. They are plagued with problems though which means SWT has to let them go at some point. Apparantly they did about an average of 8000 miles before a breakdown, 450's do about 25000 miles on average before breakdown.

The slammers did 93000 miles on average before breakdown!
