The future of the mock-up has been secured, it will be moving to a new home in Cumbria shortly

Can't say any more than that :)

Probably because it wouldn't meet crashworthiness standards.

It's made from MDF.

Siemens have enough problems with the reliability of the doors on the new Desiro's without having to worry about an MDF mock-up of one of their new trains that has such a TOC-driven specification that it will require major work to be used any where else in the UK!

Virtually all mock-ups are made of wood or mdf, and clad in the actual materials to be used. I was involved in the Midland Metro mock-up, and I can confirm the use of wood, mdf, polystyrene and scaffold poles for the support structure, and steel, plastic, wood and glass for the outer weatherproof shell. The real vehicles are, of course, all aluminium for framing and external cladding with bonded glazing, no mdf (not Class 1 fire resistant!) or scaffold poles (at least as far as I know!).

Shows how convincing the job is!

And also makes you wonder why Changing Rooms get it so wrong with the same materials!
