SWT Junipers

Post by poodles »

Hi to all.

Sorry if this is talking about Junipers again, but there seems to be much talk of them recently in this forum about their reliability problems?... I just wondered what particular problems SWT experienced with these units?

Acceleration, rideability lack of response from the 2 and 3 units. Notice they are being used on the least crowded service's like Waterloo - Alton and the occasinal Waterloo - Reading

i see quite a few going to Reading, and would have said the service is almost exclusively Junipers. Dont seem to see much else on those platforms at Reading. Though im not there everyday.....

Also they tend to be in 8 or 12 car formation.

I don't think they've ever run a 12 car 458.

Reliability is (I believe) improving. The alton services are mainly disastros these days, and the junipers are used on the Windsor line services (though not actually to winsdor IIRC). Which are some of the most crowded services on SWT because they can only run 8 cars (due to platform lengths). If you can get on the train at Putney, never mind get a seat, in peak hours you are doing very well!

South West Trains do NOT run Junipers to Alton anymore. Their prime route is Waterloo to Reading, with around 98% 458 2x458 units. You may occasionally, during weekends and peak times, see Junipers on the Weybridge via Brentford services, but that is it.

They run Staines to Weybridge shuttle as well, well they did when I used to live in the area. I always thought they were nice trains, nice big space for me' bike ;)
One did have to reboot once though :D
